The Hardworking, Clever and Wise Kids Club
supported by:
Launched in 2012, The Hardworking, Clever and Wise Kids Club has become the only national project that ensures continuity in financial education for students throughout primary school. Through age-appropriate scenarios and a character called Raifi, students from preparatory grade through 4th grade learn about the value of hard work and wise behaviour, while engaging in exercises that simulate the use of financial instruments.
PROGRAM OBJECTIVE
Part of JA's Life Skills Development national program, The Hardworking, Clever and Wise Kids Club aims to develop a comprehensive early financial education experience by enabling contexts in which students simulate opening a savings account, analyze, prioritize, make purchasing decisions and practice being entrepreneurs.
EDUCATIONAL OFFER
- The Smart, Clever and Wise Kids Club supports the development of life skills through a complete educational kit, providing students and teachers with content and auxiliary materials that mimic real financial instruments and complement practical learning: banknotes and cards, finance forms or savings books.
- The learning by doing component is supported by the classroom participation of Raiffeisen Bank volunteers, who use examples from their professional experience to explain, in a student-friendly way, basic financial concepts: the rational use of resources, future jobs that can provide an income and the money flow in a city's economy.
- The project also brings a financial education tool to the family level – a questionnaire that assesses how much time parents spend talking to their children about money and saving. Parents self-evaluate by answering questions such as "Where does money come from?", "What job would my child like to earn money from in the future?", "Should we save money on a regular basis?" or "How can I reward my child's wise behaviour?"
Using educational tools that mimic banknotes and cards, finance forms or savings books, students simulate opening a savings account, prioritize, make purchasing decisions and experience being entrepreneurs.
"The Hardworking, Clever and Wise Kids Club was a unique, constructive experience, with great impact on the students. This year was different, as we felt that we «coloured» some of our time with the topics proposed by this project. Thanks to their practical exercises, the activities were interactive and highly appreciated by the students. They especially liked the financial education activities. As a result, many of them started to take their hobbies or passions seriously and turned them into business ideas! It's a very special project that has breathed new life into children's learning and that really prepares them for life." – Teacher, Grigore Moisil Theoretical High School, Timisoara
"Students took great pleasure and interest in the Hardworking, Clever and Wise Kids Club project activities, because they encountered real life situations that gave them the opportunity to express themselves and make connections with things in their own lives. They enjoyed working, playing, and learning about how to manage their money. Such activities are great opportunities for children and implementing Junior Achievement activities in schools breaks new ground in shaping the kids' knowledge and life skills." – Teacher, Teodor V. Stefanelli School, Campulung Moldovenesc
